PT-Helper® APP

User Manual

PT-Helper is a physical therapy app for smartphones and tablets. It is designed to help the physical therapy patient keep track of and follow their assigned exercises resulting in improved exercise compliance for quicker recovery.

 

Upon installing PT-Helper, press the Get Started button on the welcome screen to accept the terms-of-use for the software.

Entering Keycode

The PT-Helper Smartphone and Tablet app is capable of synchronizing the patient's assigned exercises from PT-Helper CONNECT through the use of a unique Keycode.

Selecting          on the main page of the PT-Helper app will send you to the Settings page. Further selecting Therapist Codes will send you to a page where you can enter the Keycode for your PT assigned exercises from PT-Helper CONNECT. Adding a valid Keycode will result in your physical therapist's Company Name and the Physical Therapist's name being displayed.

 

In addition, Sync Results will appear which provides you the ability to send exercise completion results back to your therapist. Information transmitted will include date, time, and exercise completed. The default configuration for Sync Results is ON. If you turn Sync Results OFF, no exercise completion data will be sent to your physical therapist.

 

Once a Keycode has been successfully entered into PT-Helper, the physical therapist's Company Logo (if provided), Company Name, and Physical Therapist's name will be displayed on the main page of PT-Helper. Selecting the Physical Therapist's company logo or name will take you immediately to your assigned exercises for the specified Keycode.

 

Multiple Keycodes can be entered to support different injuries and different therapists.

 

Select your first exercise and press Start to begin your exercises.

Adding Exercises to Favorites

In addition to the synchronizing with PT-Helper CONNECT, you can manually create exercise programs provided to you by a physical therapist who does not use PT-Helper CONNECT. Select Exercise By Body Part. You can then select the appropriate body part such as Ankle. Scroll through the exercises and select the specified exercise(s) and add it to your Favorites.

Once you have added all of your recommended exercises to your Favorites, you can return to the main page, select Favorite Exercises. Select the Body Part that you wish to exercise. Select your first exercise and press Start to begin your exercises and follow the program that you created.

Exercise Parameters

Each exercise will have multiple pictures to illustrate how to perform the exercises. Sliding the exercise illustration left or right will present additional pictures depicting correct exercise form.

Each exercise includes a written description which can be viewed by selecting Exercise Description. Once an exercise is added to your Favorites, additional fields will appear below the Start button. Select Exercise Details to be able to modify Hold Time, Recovery Time, Rest Time, Weight, Repetitions, Sets, Sets per Day can be changed by clicking on the value and then changing the value using the pop-up keypad.

  • Hold Time: For stretching exercises, this is the period of time you should hold the stretch. For active exercises, this is the period of time you should take to move into the next exercise position.
  • Recovery Time: The period of time between Hold Times for each repetition.
  • Rest Time: The period of time between Sets of an exercise.
  • Weight: When appropriate, the weight that should be used with the exercise.
  • Repetitions: The number of repetitions for each set in the exercise.
  • Sets: The number of sets for each exercise.
  • Sets per Day: For exercises that are to be repeated multiple times in a day.

 

Resistance Band and Select Days of Activities have their own selection screens.

To begin an exercise, press Start. There will be a 3 second period (beeps each second) for you to get ready before the exercise begins. When the exercise begins, a double beep will sound to inform you that you should now start the exercise. Each Hold Time and Recovery Time will be separated by a single beep. At the end of a set, a double beep will sound to inform you that you either need to rest between sets or are at the end of a set. At the end of a Rest Time, a double beep will sound to inform you that you should now start your next set.

 

Throughout the exercise, you can pause the exercise at any time to rest or if you are interrupted during the exercise by pressing       .

Alarm Clock Notification

PT-Helper also provides a simple alarm-clock-style notification to remind you to do your exercises. It can be accessed by pressing the Setting symbol          shown in the top right hand corner of the screen. Press Notification Settings to set up your preferred reminder time and slide Receive Notifications to ON. Set your preferred reminder time and press Save at the bottom of the page.
